Power Tools

Throughout my various roles as an Intern, Premaster, and Working Student in Interaction Design, I had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of products and tasks across the entire design process. As I progressed, I was able to take on increasing levels of responsibility, allowing me to contribute more significantly over time.

HMI concepts

When developing our HMI concepts, we place great importance on user-friendly and intuitive interfaces. This includes the information architecture, user flows and efficient interaction patterns. While we strive for the best possible user experience for each individual tool, we also take into account the seamless combination of different measuring devices and consistency within the entire product portfolio.

By integrating multimodal feedback mechanisms, we increase safety in the work context on construction sites, boost efficiency and strengthen user confidence in our tools.

These are all topics whose particular importance I learned through the mentoring of my colleagues at Measuring Tools.

Styleguide

I have also realized that working with a style guide is essential, especially in large companies with a wide range of products. It enables us designers to create consistent and generally more user-friendly concepts.

I find it particularly rewarding to be able to personally contribute to such a style guide and develop it further.

Research

In the various projects I worked on, I had the opportunity to organize and participate in multiple user research studies to better understand different users. I developed interview guidelines, created click dummies for testing, moderated sessions, and gathered feedback to improve the designs.

Being so closely involved in the research process and hearing directly from users allowed me to immediately apply their insights to my work, resulting in more intuitive products. It also helped me grow personally, boosting my self-confidence in both my work and my abilities.

Learning

My time at Power Tools has so far been the most valuable learning experience for me.

Working on real products for real users with real challenges is very different from university projects. Unlike student projects, real-world products come with complex business and technical requirements, making the process more complicated but also more rewarding.
