Interaction Design Bachelor

The Bachelor’s in Interaction Design at HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd focuses on creating user-friendly digital solutions across various industries, from apps and websites to smart home devices and museum exhibits. The interdisciplinary program blends design, psychology, and technology, preparing students to work at the intersection of creativity and usability.

Methods

Right from the start, we were encouraged to adopt user-centered approaches and understand the „why“ behind everything we do. This way of thinking became the norm for me when I learned to rely on a clear, methodical approach that is deeply rooted in the design thinking process.

This process, which guides me in every project, is built around empathy for users and an iterative approach to problem-solving. Over time, I have gathered a toolbox of methods to choose from, selecting the most effective ones depending on the specific project and the challenges it presents.

Courses

The courses at HfG were centered around Interaction Design and User Experience, with a strong emphasis on learning by doing. This hands-on approach meant we repeatedly went through the entire design process—from conducting interviews and analysis to prototyping—across a wide range of topics.

As a result, we had the opportunity to work on diverse projects, including mobile and web apps, interactive exhibitions, and other human-machine interfaces (HMIs).

Here are some examples for project work I completed within my courses:

Design Community

As it is with university, HfG wasn’t just about studying.

Although I wasn’t able to enjoy the campus as much due to COVID, the open, friendly, and collaborative environment – created by both students and lecturers- allowed me to learn from & with my peers, both personally and professionally as a designer.

Surrounded by people who shared the same curiosity and drive to experiment, I was and still am constantly inspired & influenced by their passion.

Learning

Looking back, I am truly grateful for the experiences I gained during my time at HfG, along with everything I learned along the way. The solid design foundation and methods I built there continue to shape my approach to projects today.

Beyond design, it was a time of personal growth. –And I learned that feeling at home in the lovely town of Schwäbisch-Gmünd with my flatmates and friends set the ground for that.
